Quietness and Trust

Isaiah 30:15a
For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, "In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength."

Lately, I have been reading in Isaiah and this verse really popped out at me. The Lord is telling Israel that if they come back to him he will shield and protect them. But already at the "b" portion of the passage, the people of Israel have said that they are not willing. They would rather fight and sacrifice their own lives and horses.

I think that I see a lot of my own life in this. I am so quick to rely on my own energy to make it through a day (or long night) full of fussing, tears, feeding and diaper changes. And part of what is so awesome about being a mom is that maybe before my little guy arrived I could have sufficiently made it through a day on my own power, but now, I see that I am sorely lacking on my own.

Tiredness, frustration and anger are enough to keep me down. But the Holy One tells me that all I need is returning, rest, quietness and trust. These four things are a picture of grace to me. And that is exactly what I pray to become --> a picture of grace.

  2. That verse, and verse 18 in that same chapter, are some of my very favorites. I often catch myself trying to live as if this verse doesn't exist though, much as you describe, even without a kiddo. Thank God for His grace! Praying for you and Daniel as you struggle through and rejoice in learning how to be gracious to that adorable son of yours!

  3. Ah, Rachel! There so many ways that the Lord will use Eli to teach you more about Himself and about yourself as well. Some things will not be so pretty. Others will be too wonderful for words!
